Backlog
We flew into Rome after a night stopover in Korea, spent a couple of days doing the tourist stuff... colosseum, Trevi Fountain etc... along with lavish amounts of delicious pizza, pasta and wine (cheaper than water in some places!), then booked a 3 day trip south. We stopped briefly in Napoli, then had lunch and a tour at Pompeii. From there we headed down one of the most scenic coastal roads I have ever travelled, finally arriving at our destination.. the Royal Hotel in Sorrento.
One thing I find frustrating about guided tours is they only stop where they want to. As we neared Sorrento, I was impressed by the coast and wanted to stop and take some pics but couldn’t. Not sure where I was, I used my gps to get location, vowing to return... but that is another saga...TBC...haha...
I was impressed by the Royal... our trip was on the bargain side (the Royal walk in rate was more than our whole trip!) so we ended up in one of the lower rooms, a good 10 minute walk from the lobby. It was close to the pool and outside area so suited me just fine.
I took these pictures from the lookout near the pool... as you can see the Hotel sits on a cliff far above the actual beach.. access to the small sandy enclave and wooden swimming pier construction below was via the beach lift... Note the island out to sea that looks like a volcano...
Dinner at the Royal is a special event, the 4 course meal was included in our deal and we made the most of it. We went to bed early as tomorrow we are going to the Isle of Capri.....
